The first Ilkley Science Festival came to a very successful close on Sunday 15th. A huge thank you to Professor Jim Deuchars, Professor Marion Hetherington, Dr Catriona Morrison, Professor Mark Mon-Williams, Professor Martin Levesley and Dr William Hughes from the University of Leeds. Their stimulating and cutting edge talks were seen by more than 200 visitors; from the wonders of the wandering vagus nerve, chocolate heaven and remembering memory matters on the Saturday through to improving your exam results by frequent exercise, engineering body parts and ending with the flirtatious behaviour of social insects on the Sunday. From small beginnings come great things. Or, perhaps... 'From small reads do mighty genomes grow.' All proceeds from the festival were generously donated to those invloved from the Ecuador 2010 Expedition team. |
