Parental Involvement Worker

My name is Marian Sloan. I am the Parental Involvement Worker at Ilkley Grammar School. I already work at the school as the Lunchtime Manager. I now have the opportunity to take on this new and challenging role which will support parental engagement with the school and with their children's learning.

What is Parental Involvement?

• Parental involvement is having both parents and the school working alongside each other to improve the child's learning.
• Children have two main educators in their lives:
  • Parents /carers
  • Teachers
• Both the school and parents play a crucial role in the child's life.
• Therefore if both educators work together the impact is greater.

My aims as a Parental Involvement worker

• Promote a positive relationship between home and school
• Work hard to create a friendly welcoming school environment
• Provide opportunities for parents
• Improve attendance
• Provide family support and parenting classes
• Set up adult education courses for parents
• Involve parents in their child's learning and school life
• Provide more regular, meaningful communication
