My name is Marian Sloan.
I am the Parental Involvement Worker at Ilkley Grammar School.
I already work at the school as the Lunchtime Manager.
I now have the opportunity to take on this new and challenging role which will support parental engagement with the school and with their children's learning. |
What is Parental Involvement?
- Parental involvement is having both parents and the school working alongside each other to improve the child's learning.
- Children have two main educators in their lives:
- Both the school and parents play a crucial role in the child's life.
- Therefore if both educators work together the impact is greater.

My aims as a Parental Involvement worker
- Promote a positive relationship between home and school
- Work hard to create a friendly welcoming school environment
- Provide opportunities for parents
- Improve attendance
- Provide family support and parenting classes
- Set up adult education courses for parents
- Involve parents in their child's learning and school life
- Provide more regular, meaningful communication
