The Governing Body (GB) is responsible for: establishing and maintaining the school's aims, values and ethos; deciding its policies; supervising its management, including finance; monitoring its performance. The GB works in partnership with the head teacher who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school.
School governors are the largest volunteer force in the country. Ilkley Grammar School has 20 governors each of whom has a term of office of four years; the different categories are shown below. The detail of our business is dealt with via four committees; their functions and membership are shown here. The GB, and most of the committees, usually meet twice per term, in school in the evening.
Each teaching department in the School is allocated a Link Governor. This is a named member of the Governing Body who has agreed to take a special interest in the affairs of that department.
Parents who wish to discuss their children, and members of the public who wish to discuss the management of the school, should contact the head teacher. Governors can be contacted via the school office on matters for which they are responsible.
