In 2005 we achieved Specialist School status in Science-Humanities. This encompasses the three core subjects of English, Maths and Science and has meant a capital grant of £100,000 as well as the £50,000 generously donated and raised through sponsorship. We also receive year on year formula funding.
The extra money will help to raise standards of achievement and attainment in initially, the three subject areas and then across the remainder of the school. Obvious and immediate changes have come in the guise of a new ICT suite, a "lapsafe" trolley and more interactive whiteboards around the school.
Specialist schools are part of the Government's plans to raise standards in secondary education. They have a special focus on those subjects relating to their chosen specialism while also meeting the National Curriculum requirements and delivering a broad and balanced education to all pupils.
