We take seriously the academic progress, welfare and conduct of each student. The school offers a full range of courses at GCSE, A and AS level and at AVCE Advanced Level. Applied GCSEs are currently available in ICT and Health and Social Care; AVCE ICT and Business run in the Sixth Form alongside over 20 AS/A2 courses.
There is an ongoing commitment to developing courses to meet our students' needs at KS4 and in the Sixth Form, as well as to Gifted and Talented opportunities and those to do with Work Related Learning.
Strong and close links with our feeder primary schools ensure a smooth transfer, and our pastoral organisation supports learning and the well-being of our students. Each year group is led by a Year Leader, and students are placed in one of nine tutor groups.
Our stand on bullying is clear and unequivocal: bullying is never acceptable and students are encouraged to talk about their concerns with someone they can trust. They will be taken seriously and the situation dealt with sensitively and promptly.
Students are regularly assessed across subjects to ensure work is at the appropriate level to support learning, to monitor progress and attainment and to inform parents.
Targets are set for all students as part of this process, and a Review Day allows us to work with them to discuss and review progress and agree targets for improvement.
We aim to offer all students a broad and relevant curriculum that meets their individual needs. Where there are specific learning needs, our Learning Support team will work with students and parents to support learning and see students settle happily into school. Our Special Educational Needs policy is available on request.
