The purpose of homework is to develop in students a sense of responsibility for organising their own work schedule, to extend their class work and prepare for the next piece of work. Various kinds of homework may be set consisting, for instance, of writing, reading, learning, researching, practical tasks or consolidating work done in class. Good practice indicates that the average amount of time spent on homework will fall within these ranges:
|
Year 7 - 8 |
45 - 90 minutes a day |
|
| Year 9 | 1 - 2 hours a day | |
| Years 10 - 11 | 1.5 - 2.5 hours a day |

All students are issued with school planners which include homework diaries. Parents are asked to sign these once a week and to ensure that they are being used appropriately. The planners can also be used as a format for communicating with the Group Tutor who will check them periodically. A homework timetable will be issued to students. Please check that they are following this.
