One of our priorities is to strengthen and broaden our work with parents and we are currently working towards the Leading Parent Partnership Award which, through the involvement with parents, aims to enhance children's life chances as young people and adults.
We hope it will support us in improving communication, engaging parents in the life of IGS, and facilitate even more effective participation in your child's learning.
Please let us know what other issues you would like to work with us on: we want to be a 'listening school'! Join us for 'Take a Break' or check our new 'Parent Partnership' Notice Board in the main entrance.
As a consequence of some of the initial findings from the Keele surveys we know that parents want further information on particular issues. So to support our drive for further improvement in all aspects of school life and meet parent requests, we are inviting interested parents to join us for a series of 'Parent Voice' evenings across the rest of the year.
Following a presentation on a particular theme identified from the survey, we will invite comments and news from you, so we can work together more closely on what matters most in school.
The first of these meetings on 26th March 2009 focused on our Student Progress Tracking and Reporting Systems and the supporting presentation can be viewed here.
The second of these, for Year 7 Parents was on Thursday 21st May in B Hall at 6.00pm: 'Supporting Success' - Personal Learning and Thinking Skills in Year 7.
SEAL - Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning on the 7th July has been cancelled until further notice.
Join us if you can, and want your voice heard.
The 'Year 7 Intake' Parents' Evening will be held at 6.30pm on Tuesday 22nd June 2010.
Take-a-Break is an opportunity for parents to find out more about daily life at Ilkley Grammar School. Parents and relatives are invited to meet informally with Mrs James and members of staff for a cup of tea or coffee over break time.
Take-a-Break always happens on the last Friday of each half term and term in the Lower Library. Further details are published in the School Newsletter.
The next Open Day will be in the Autumn Term 2010 - Dates to be confirmed.
Our 'Supporting Success' Parents' Evening is back!
On Wednesday 12th March 2008 we held an information evening for parents, focusing on supporting children through exams.
This evening was particularly aimed at parents of Year 11 students and we looked at ways of organising and maximising revision, how to cope with stress, what happens in the run up to the exams, and what provisions there are in school eg. library, ICT facilities, SAM Learning, websites, and after-school / lunchtime revision sessions.
